About the Event

Navigating academic research can be complicated by intersectional identities, often in unexpected ways.  This conversation series will hold space for trans, queer, racialized and/or disabled folks to come together and discuss their experiences in research/academic settings.  Happening approximately twice per academic term, these conversations will hold space for sharing experiences and developing strategies to address intersectional challenges.

On October 16, the initial conversation will focus on graduate student interactions with supervisors. This session will be hosted by Dr. Taco Niet, a trans nonbinary faculty member in the SFU School of Sustainable Energy Engineering. We will discuss questions like: What should a grad student expect from their supervisor?  How does one approach their supervisor with questions/challenges?  What happens if the student-supervisor relationship isn’t meeting expectations?
